Art & Education Statement

Lina’s focus often leans towards the “mundane” – everyday objects or phenomenon that are frequently overlooked. She attempts to create aesthetically appealing pieces to share with viewers the fascination of her subject matter and to encourage others to share her fondness for the world around them.  Lina firmly believes in play-based, emergent curriculum which takes advantage of “mundane,” everyday moments as teaching opportunities.  She utilizes mindfulness to support children in developing emotion regulation skills and emphasizes the importance of thoughtful, intentional teaching in her work.

In 2007, Lina was awarded a Music Center Spotlight Awards honorable mention for her photo “English Breakfast.” She was also awarded an Irwin Grant from University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) in 2011.  Lina graduated with a degree in Fine Art from the UCSC in 2011.
