I have always been intrigued by the everyday things in life we tune out. Much of my art has made an effort to emphasize maligned subjects. My goal is simple – to encourage viewers to find beauty in an everyday event.
I continue this theme by creating portraits of artistic tools. My photos inspect studio tools and processes using dramatic angles and poetic lighting. Brush bristles, paints in a palette, the texture of graphite on paper – I want to give these “everyday” tools their glamour shots.
I aim to portray our tools in a new light – to romanticize normally practical objects. I believe that in our constant rush we don’t take the time to look closely at the world around us; I want to try and inspire people to pause and see the world in a more appreciative light.
